A buyer pays a multiple of earnings they can prove. Their accountants will take apart your reported profit, and the most common thing they remove is profit that's really just inventory sitting in the warehouse. The improvements you get paid for are the ones already in your numbers when the buyer arrives. If a sale is 12 to 24 months away, now is the time to start.
Interim or ongoing: interim engagements typically run until a full-time CFO is hired or the transition is complete. Time is agreed up front and can scale up during a close, a financing or a deal.
